I feel incredibly lucky to have such a great group of readers and commenters, and know I have some pretty amazing people visiting this blog. However, I (and other readers) only get small glimpses into your stories; I wish I could sit each of you down, buy you a cup of coffee, and learn more about your experiences in minimalist living.
Even better: I’d love to share your stories with everyone here. I’m pretty sure we’d all like to get to know each other better. To that end, I’d like to introduce a new feature here on the blog: Real Life Minimalists.
If you’d like to be a featured minimalist, simply email me something about yourself in approximately 350-750 words. (I’ll post your words exactly as written, so don’t include anything you don’t want on the internet!)
You can remain as anonymous as you’d like; if you don’t want to use your real name, simply make up a handle (sorry, Miss Minimalist is already taken!). If you’d like to include a photo, fantastic—it can be of yourself, or some aspect of your home that showcases your particular minimalist style.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a master minimalist, a minimalist-in-training, or a minimalist newbie—we take all kinds here! :-) No matter where you are on your minimalist journey (even if you’re just starting out), we’d love to hear your story.
And if you have a blog, please include your URL and tell us something about it. That way, we’ll all know where to go if we want to learn more!
I’m so excited about this, and hope you share my enthusiasm! If so, all you have to do is:
1. write up an approx. 350-750 word profile about yourself
2. email it to me at ct09 AT missminimalist.com (remove the spaces and replace the AT with @, of course!)
3. include an optional .JPG photo of yourself or home (500 x 500 pixels maximum size)
If you have any questions, simply ask them here in the comments.
I can’t wait to get to know you better!

I have hoarded a room full of crochet and knitting stuff for over 4 years.. a large chunk of my income was spent on these books, yarns, tools and on shipping fee.. Since I’m in the Philippines and I have to ship the items from US to Philippines.. it’s very expensive. I was not thinking so much then.. I am single and I have more than enough salary for myself.. That changed when I got married and had a son.. Where some people have one room for clothes and shoes, I have one room full of yarn and books.. and the items I made out of my collection is no where near proportional.. it’s inverse propotional… it’s a mess. I was happy just to look on my collection.. but then, a financial trouble hit me… I got tired of rendering over time at work.. while I was brainstorming ,it hit me.. I have to sell these stuff and get back to money..I gave up our apartment to transfer and opted to live with our relatives, who welcomed us in.. I have been downsizing for 2 months and I have already earned through sales 1/16th of the entire stash :) it’s an amount I will not earn through over time alone.. I’m so glad I have found your website :) My initial plan of just downsizing the hobby stash is very beneficial that I will apply minimalist to other aspects of my life ! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and thoughts :)

Hi,
I have a question about minimizing your personal belongings. When you are cleaning up your things, evaluating what to get rid of, how do you go about considering items that were given to you, or have slight sentimental value? I feel guilty whenever I throw out something that was handed down to me but I never use, or that I have several similar items of already. Or, clothing that was gifted to me that I will never wear.
Then there’s also little things and clutter that take up space but have significant emotional value, i.e., souvenirs, artwork by friends, little toys or decorative items from friends or family. Any suggestions of how to keep these things organized without having them take up lots of room?
What do you think?
