I just wanted to wish you all a lovely and serene holiday!
We’re keeping the season as simple as possible here—a “light Christmas,” if you will. We’ve decorated our little cottage with a fresh tree and wreath, lots of twinkle lights, and some ornaments handmade by my daughter (my baby just turned 7, can you believe it?).
We’ve hung up our stockings, which Santa typically fills with some decadent consumables we normally wouldn’t buy for ourselves (like artisan coffee, soap, chocolates—here’s what I got last year). And the little one will receive one special gift from each member of the family; a robotics kit, a chemistry set, glitter markers, jewelry beads, and a kitten are on her wish list this year.
Our social calendar has been full, but I’m trying my best to keep it from feeling “busy.” We took my daughter to Disney on Ice for her birthday, and attended The Nutcracker ballet in our tutus last Sunday. We watched her sing in her school’s holiday concert—and really, is there anything more adorable than little ones performing Christmas carols? We made a gingerbread house, and had a “cocoa and cookies” party before heading out to see our town’s holiday decorations and lights. Now we’re preparing to host visiting family for Christmas week. It sounds like a hectic schedule, but somehow we’ve managed to pace it so it’s fun and not overwhelming.
Since my plate has been pretty full, I’ve been posting a lot over on Instagram lately (in fact, I have a book giveaway going on there right now). When life is busy, I find it more doable to share a photo and a few sentences than write a blog post—it’s an easier way for me to share snippets of my personal life. So if you’d like to see what’s going on in my minimalist world, come on over and follow me on Instagram.
That said, I’ll be back on the blog in early January to make a BIG announcement. So stay tuned, or sign up for my mailing list to be sure you don’t miss it.
Enjoy the holidays, and I’ll meet you back here in the New Year! ❤️

Will she be getting a kitten? I really hope so! :)

I’d love to know too! My 3yo told me Santa is bringing him a kitten, which was news to me! :)

I don’t do instagram. It would be nice to have a giveaway attached to FB or your email subscribers.

I second the idea of a FB giveaway. Your holidays sound lovely— enjoy!

You gotta let us know if your daughter gets a kitten! So sweet!

Well, if the kitten arrives, Life will be a little bit less simple, lol! Kittens are so much fun, though.

I second getting a kitten! LOL! Cats are so much fun and don’t need much though the kitten phase can be a challenge. Whatever the final presents are, I hope you all have a happy holiday!

I always enjoy reading your blog and find the content inspirational. I hope you and your family have a lovely ‘light’ Christmas. I look forward to hearing your big announcement.

I am so happy we have cats. They are less work than dogs and just as cuddly.. Best wishes to you and yours.

Thanks for all the happy holiday wishes! So, an update: we decided to hold off on the kitten since we have some upcoming travel planned. However, the little one continues her campaign, so I suspect one may still be in our future. :)

This makes me smile for two reasons: 1 – you’re planning travel, which is very exciting because its been a long time and in my head you are itching to spread your wings a little and 2 – I have this beautiful image in my head of a very excited Plumblossom playing with a dainty grey kitten, which is just a beautiful little scene. Hope you enjoy both counts!

Thank you for these calm and positive words. I have always dreaded Christmas, even as a small child, but my own children love it. It has always felt isolating and awkward to me. Now every year I simplify it a little more (three children with Autism do not allow for sudden changes!) and I hope that one day I will finally enjoy the season.
